Default About to purchase :-)

Hi all,

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been a 'lurker' on this forum for quite a while now and enjoy reading all the lively discussions. I've been visiting Hungary for the last 12 years or so and as a family we've been to Balaton for the last few summers, staying in a variety of towns around the Lake. We have Hungarian friends and they are now helping us to negotiate buying a small house near to theirs in Badacsonytördemic.

Regards,

Matthew

Hi duztee,

No we're well used to the area and hopefully won't (initially at least) get charged "foreigner" prices as luckily we've got natives to help us along the way! We know and love the place, people and culture plus we're used to the long drive from the UK!!!

Hi Matthew,

You are buying in a great area. We are in Lesenceistvand with relatives in Tapolca. Our favourite strand is Szigliget nearby. Good luck with the purchase.

Hi John,

We must have driven through your village then! We love Szigliget beach too, great for the kids :-)

Good timing as the weather has improved in Hungary at last. Hope you have time for a break. We are back in UK having had a cold Easter there. I am sure your purchase will go well.

What glorious weather! We even had time for an evening watching the sun setting over Szigliget whilst sipping champagne

Well everything is signed and sealed and we've even managed to get a builder and electrician to commit to start the refurbishment work. Our next trip over is in the school holidays at the end of May when hopefully we can get furniture and bathroom/kitchen fittings purchased.

We're looking at OBI for the bathroom suite - or does anyone have any recommendations on other places near to Tapolca that have a good range (or good prices!).

Cheers,

Matt

There is a good plumbing merchant in Tapolca. If you drive from Szigliget to Tapolca on the road that goes through Hegymagos, they are on the right hand side of the road, after the railway line but before the small roundabout. We have used them for two shower rooms, basins & WC's. Look upstairs as well as on the ground floor. Good luck.

Zalaegerszeg would probably be closer.

Thanks for the Praktiker idea i'll give them a look when we're there next month and see how their range/prices compare with the place that John has recommended near Tapolca, which would obviously be a lot handier!

continuing in this thread through fear of starting another similar one. Myself and partner have looked endlessly at properties in the Zala county region. We have seen some very nice properties, but would hope any expat members could advise or share their experience of the settlements Nemesbuk, Karmacs and Rezi. Are these "good" or Not so good areas to be interested in. Any feedback would be grately appreciated.

Hi,

We have a cottage at Szigliget. We spend a couple of weeks there every summer. Let us know when you are around.
