Hi Guys,

Another PIO application query. Sorry. I want to try to apply for a PIO card. I am a white british born male. Both parents white british born. My Grandfather (white of scottish ancestry) was born in india and moved to the UK in his 20's. My great-grandfather (white of scottish ancestry) was born, lived, worked and married in India. I have my Grandfathers birth certificate (Bombay), his application for a british passport (and stating my great grandfathers birthplace as Bangalore) and my great grandfathers marriage certificate in india. All my ancestry is white - but does anyone know if I have a chance? THANKS!!!

If you have your great-grandfather's birth cert showing that he was born in India, then to in all intents and purposes he is an Indian (you cannot tell skin colour from a birth cert). That said, just apply and see what happens, they can, at the worst, only say no!

You are actually in a better position PIO wise than 2nd & 3rd generation Indian families who also wish to apply for PIO status, but cannot as there are no birth certs. You have the documentation it seems, apply and see how it goes. If you have fulfilled all the rules regardless of your skin colour you should get it. You can say you are Anglo-Indian did me well when I got my Aadhar card here to say I was Anglo, explains the fair skin

Like you whitebrit, I technically could apply for PIO as my mother was born over there 100 years ago, I have her death cert stating India as place of birth and copies of her UK passport details which also state M.P India as place of birth, but I have always been put off applying as I believe if they turn down your app -- they keep the fee....
Due to all the continuous crap we endure ( yes I KNOW its India before anyone starts ) now feel I may start the app process, let me know by PM how you get on ? good luck anyway

The key for whitebrit will be the birth certificate. You must have something 'official' stamped in India itself.
Naturalisation certificate can help.
UK death cert. or UK passport details will not be accepted as evidence.

Thanks Bipat for the " not so good news" for my situation, I do have another avenue open to me as I hope to get something official from M.P which may help

If you can get school or college records. Or someone who knows your family and knows of your mother's birth and can give an affidavit. All can help.
