Yes, Goa and Dhiu were Portuguese until 1961. I wonder how many people know ANYTHING about the history of the Indian Sub-continent. It is certainly no longer taught in schools in Britain. I wonder what your average Sun or Mail reader knows of the anti-colonial and anti-imperial struggles that eventually succeeded in sending the colonisers home.

Most of those from that time are now gone, just those in their 80s and 90s, remember.

Most kids today do not even know about Suez or the campaigns in Malaysia and Aden, never mind the Indian sub-continents fight for freedom but then again lots of young Indian kids dont know who Ghandi was and what he achieved.Just finished a book.The Devils Wind by Saul David. It completely over turns the old claim that The Indian Mutiny in 1857 was caused by the issuing of cartridges greased in pig or cow fat.The mutineers in the siege of Delhi used them to fire at British troops.......good read and good history too.
