Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Yes, I enjoyed it,it was probably better than the multitude of rubbish programs on TV that night, but my husband did not think much of it so it is probably something to go and see with the girls.

Goa witnesses a jump in arrival of Russians
7 Apr: Herald. A sudden jump in the number of Russians arriving in Goa has posted them high on the tourism chart … from 57,623 in 2010 to massive 133,780 in 2011. The number of Britons has witnessed a slump from 154,122 in 2010 to 117,683 in 2011 … The increasing presence of Russians in the State has also been looked upon as a worry on the law and order front and also a cultural invasion

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
According to wikipedia: Thailand (Pop. 70 Million) had over 19 million foreign tourists in 2011 of which 850,000 were from UK (up from 810,000 in 2010) and just over 1 million were from Russia (up from 640,000 in 2010).
That is an invasion!

UK: Thomson’s flight to Goa left three hours EARLY
9 Mar: Daily Mail (UK). Travel giant Thomson failed to inform passengers of the changes made for the London to Goa flight which departed for India without a number of tourists onboard… Thomson have since apologised and said that they were requested by Goa Airport to change the time of the flight due to maintenance work at the airport

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Interesting letter in ToI, this morning. Written by, no less, the HC himself.
A question arises. Does this guy represent me, us, or India and Indians? Of course he doesn,he also represents Vodophone! They placate us by having an occasional meeting, they buy us, they think, with free drinks after the meeting. Then,........nowt, zilch. Be good boys and girls until the next free drinks night. I, we, know they're extracting the urine. Why don't they come out with some undiplomatic talk and tell us we're on our own.
Davie.

Oh and if you are wondering if this represents a criticism of India, Goa, the Police etc, wonder no longer, the answer is a resounding yes, Bipat. So off you go with the comparisons with Tunbridge Wells, Plymouth, and the Gorbals.......

UK: Family's quest for truth over what killed Denyse Sweeney
19 Apr: Derby Telegraph. A family has vowed to leave "no stone unturned" to discover the truth about a young Derby mum's death in Goa … They had been told that she had died of a drugs overdose but coroner Dr Robert Hunter said there were no signs of drugs in her body and said there was no explanation for 20 injuries she had suffered. Miss Sweeney travelled frequently to Goa … her body was covered in 20 bruises, including a 4.5cm mark on the back of her head… Miss Sweeney was working as a volunteer at an animal sanctuary … Her sister said, "Friends of hers who contacted us from Goa seemed to have vanished… We need help from someone…
Quite right J5 only now Scarlett can be buried.

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Another tragedy, and yet another family left devastated by the death of a loved one, only to be doubly devastated to find out that the Goan police failed to do a basic investigation when it seems that it may have been obviously foul play.
One would have thought that something would have been learned after the incompetence and deception following Scarelett's murder, and after the incompetent investigation following the Stephen Bennett murder............. sadly it seems not !
My sympathies lie with the family who must be beside themselves.
