Smile Cash back

Does anyone know how much cash, euros, pounds or dollars that can be legally carried when leaving India?

Not 100% sure but I think the max is $5,000 per person.

The 5,000 may well be correct, but I've read somewhere it's considerably more.

I'm also of the opinion that you can take back all you can PROVE was brought in. Probably wrong on both counts, but worth checking.

Davie..

I agree it could be more. All I know is that I regularly get a receipt from Indian Customs for 5,000 when I go through. Have been doing this for years.
Also agree you can take out what you brought in but usually this is by bank transfer and with permission from Central bank ( who have to give approval when it comes in initially..) In cash in the hand it is limited.

You are also limited in the UK I think as to how much you can carry on you in cash but don't know the amount. It might be £10,000 as that is the amount which throws up a tracer in all UK banks . ( since anti terrorism money laundering rules came into force several years ago) Any transactions over that are queried.
