Default UK Senior Citizen in Germany

Hello, having searched the net for accurate answers, I am more confused than I was!
As a recipient of a UK state pension but resident in Germany, am I entitled to health care in Germany and if so, how do I go about claiming it?
thanks in advance

Hirschhs

I recommend you go to an AOK office in your local area. They will tell you what to do and the necessary paperwork to be filled out.
They will also expect a lot of info from your past, so be prepared for long evenings pulling all this information together!

I hope this helps

Jakey

not too sure how the German system works, but for Spain all you needed was an S1 form from the DWP, and proof of your residence + your passport.

Thanks Jakey, I think it'll be more straightforward than Hungary where I currently am!! The bureaucracy here is mind-numbing!
cheers

I always thought that public health insurance companies aren't required to accept people over 55 years old. Most older people would need to get a private insurance which is very expensive. I know several people who would have liked to live in Germany and enjoy their retirement there but decided not to because health insurance is way to expensive. But maybe I understood incorrectly.

Those in receipt of a State Retirement Pension from an EU member State should be entitled to health care in another EU State if they are resident there. Thjere is a form yopu get from the DWP.

Keep us updated please. I would be interested to know because for the over 55 it is usually very hard to get into the German public insurance. And I am taking German citizens here. But maybe EU rules are different and allow an EU pensioner to join public insurance. I think you better contact German health insurance companies as well because they will be the ones insuring you not the Dwp. Somebody already mentioned the aok AOK – Die Gesundheitskasse

Hi, are you sure that you can download the S1? From what I hear on the France forum, you apply to the DWP for it by mail/snailmail/telephone, and they issue it after having studied your situation.
Good luck with your quest!
