I've read a couple of thread but without I feel the same answer or conclusion. So here's one for you to rattle your brains over. Ps many thanks for answers.

What am I? What can I have with what I got?

British parents (Live in UK, both with British passports - father Also has Irish Nationality with his Granddad being Irish. Grandmother on Mothers side is Polish)

Both parents serviced in forces in Germany. I come along in 1982 & was born in German hospital. Got myself a nice A4 size print of a birth certificate too. I lived in Germany twice as kid but have been in UK 20 years since. Got British passport.

I ask this question partly because though I've seen answers close to this. All of them are regarding birth after certain dates & not as early as mine. Aware that laws in countries have been changing over past 20 years or so.

Third question for the mix. If I was to visit Germany now would I be asked where the hell was I for National Service? haha.

Are you asking if you are a German citizen? In general, being born in Germany does not in itself make you a German citizen.

Birth certificate....whats on it. Born in Germany.Parents given nationality status???
Birth registered, at British consulate or when in UK.???
Status of British citizenship.???.

Nothing negative, just Questions which would be asked, when chasing your profile
to prove citizenship status if I was a IO.
My 1st 2 kids, I registered their births at B.consulate for British B.certificate.
My last 2 kids I didnt bother. I am British my Wife German.
Today I wouldnt know their rights if they wanted to claim British citizenship and the right to domicile..if UK pulled out of EU.Then again not really worried.

But like your point.

I thought if you were born abroad to serving forces parents then you took on citizenship of your parents , not the country you were born in.
My youngest brother was born in gibraltar when my father was serving there and has always been a UK citizen, but could claim gibraltarian citizenship as well.

Maybe a quick google would answer the question?

Normally that's the case ... however, in some cases, children born to visiting forces are citizens. For example, children born before 1983 in the U.K. to United States military personnel stationed in Britain. Such persons are British citizens as well as (usually) U.S. citizens.

There's no such thing as Gibraltarian citizenship since it's a British Overseas Territory, not a country. If your brother was born before 1983 he would be a British overseas territories citizen (BOTC) as well as a British citizen.

Hello JAJ, I see your very much clued up on this subject from previous threads you've interacted with.

I suppose true I don't think I am a German Citizen Its more of a 'Am I anymore German than others in a similar situation due to the fact I hold a German birth certificate. Would I am able to use that as an advantage if I feel? Which I suppose leads in to my second question.

Fushs01 I may not have explained it properly or more to the point, added in non-relative information. But I hold a standard British Passport. I am a British Citizen, I know this. Mother & Father are British & as British as can be. The birth certificate is crackers. All in German (As you expect) Ill have to dig it out but if i recall it only stats mother name. Not fathers (I believe that due to that field not being required) & if I recall. No citizenship's or Nationality are mentioned. It's been a while since looking at it though.

I am just really intrigued & searching on government websites for answers is like getting a straight yes or no out of a politician... Near impossible

You have stated that you are a British citizen, so what answers to what questions are
you looking for.Maybe I am missing your point, or not understanding you needs.

On what, you mentioned as your 3rd question.
Without going into detail...If you spent your Teenage years in Germany, you may have received an invitation,
from the "Bundeswehr", but if you were living under British services regulations with your parents, then
the question would never pop up.
There has also been a relaxation in Germany on conscription/Wehrpflicht....So dont worry they wont shoot
you as a deserter...

Thanks Fushs01. didn't really think i'd do national service. Funny place to be if i did though hey?

I don't really know what i am trying to get at with question other than because my birth certificate wasn't a British issued one am I considered any different? if so, to what ends. Can I use this to apply for immediate German citizenship or simply pick up a passport if wanted etc. I mean I am help being me & British its just nice to know what I am, who I am from this. If its just I am British full stop & the birth certificate means toffee then that's my answer. I've just never looked into it & when people say this & that I conclude to say 'I've no idea'

As far as I am aware (and always do your own research), being born in Germany does not give you German citizenship or any entitlement to German citizenship. However, if you move to Germany you could become a naturalised German citizen in due course.

You cannot have a German passport unless you become a German citizen.

Birth certificate is still a vital piece of civil documentation, since it proves where and when you were born. Don't lose it. In fact, you should have a British consular birth certificate as well as a local German one. Most military births were registered with the British authorities.

Also, make sure you have copies of your parent's birth certificates and service records as you would need these to re-evidence your own British citizenship if necessary. For example, if your passport was lost.

In case you ever wanted to apply for the U.S. Diversity Visa (so-called green card lottery), you could apply based on your German birthplace. Most of those born in the U.K. (except Northern Ireland) are ineligible, while British citizens born in eligible countries, such as Germany, are still eligible. Ask further on one of the U.S. forums if interested.

You should have a British military and/or consular birth certificate in addition to your German birth certificate. If you don't I would make an application to the General Register Office and see what it throws up.
