Default Which German city would be for me?

I'm actually an American expat in London, but 1. - I've grown up here, that I'll practical be a British expat if I move to Germany, and 2. - I don't want biased support for Bavaria, which I'd get if I asked this question on an American expat forum.

Not now, but in a few years, I'll be in my finance career, (mid - late 20's), and I'll be earning well in six figures. Money wouldn't be a problem for this future me, but I still would like to live in the rural, and maybe commute by the bahn. I like skiing, love hunting, like water-sports, such as surfing, rowing, kayaking, swimming, etc. I would like to be in or near a city which is major. I don't care where I live, it has to either be a townhouse - apartment - or suburban house. I'll be owning a car though. And I'd like the answer to not be Hamburg, just because it's 'like England'. I also wouldn't mind learning the martian dialect/language (?) of Bayerische. And if I have to ride a few hours to get to the alpine slopes from Frankfurt, then let it be, I wouldn't mind.

Which one of the following is all the best for the things I like, best for myself, best for shopping, best for living a high end life, etc...

1. - Hamburg
2. - Frankfurt
3. - Munich

Which one, out of the three? I'm leaning more towards 2 & 3 for some reason.

Actually, none of them. It's the place in which you find the right woman. There are several possibilities but I'm putting my money on Sebbeterode (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebbeterode).

Seriously, why not just spend a few weeks in each of them, and decide for yourself? It's one thing to recommend a dish from the three on the menu, but if you're going to be eating it every day for a long, long time, it's worth trying all three first.

None of these. Go for a small town - preferably in one of the "New Bundeslaender" (Euphemism for ex-GDR)

Freiburg.
Stuttgart
Nuernberg

If you go East (old DDR), Also many sports and beautiful nature.
Maybe just for some, a bit out of the way, to the rest of W.Europe.
Streets and infastructure, still struggling, when travelling across country.
So do your OWN homework and research.

Then there is the Carnival cities..
Mainz
Köln
Dusseldorf.

If you dont mind splitting the difference, a bit of Alsace, a bit of French and German, there is always...
Strassbourg.

Hello,

from what I read I would suggest Munich. It is more conservative but very beautiful and close to the Alps, Switzerland, Italy, France etc. So you will have lots of opportunity for hiking, skiing etc.

All the best!

Have you watched the Escape to the continent on BBC2 for Lake Constance? A beautiful place and perfect for your sports.
