Dresden

I first visited in 1964. I have been back -several times, Only recently I learned that in the old days there was a Scottish presence. Destroyed for ever in February 1945

The Cathedral has been rebuilt, but not the Scottish Church.

Re: Dresden

I have never been there but would love to go. When I think of Dresden , I always think of it being blitzed to the ground. Maybe because of the All Our Yesterday's programme that used to be shown.

Do you know what building stands now on the sight of the Church?

Re: Dresden

I hope to check that out. I suspect a modern building from the 1950s.

On my first visit in 1964 Dresden was a building site. lLrge parts of it still are !

Re: Dresden

An interesting question btw why some buildings were rebuild while others weren't. Probably there where no Scottish left to ask for it to be rebuild. I certainly had no idea that Scottish were present in Germany and had churches there.

Re: Dresden

It had been used by the Scottish community until 1914 when it was closed. It was later taken over by another congregation and used as a church until its destruction on 13/14 February 1945 by the "Luftpiraten".
