Default Autobahn travel

Hi!
I'm not usually a poster here, keep to France and Scandinavia, but I do have a small problem/question for those of you who travel across Germany. We will be coming back from France to Sweden in mid-July, taking the route from luxembourg via the A1 to Cologne and then A2 to Hannover and finally from Hannover to Hamburg and north to the Germany-Denmark ferry at Puttgarden. Would it be better to travel a weekend (Sunday) through Germany? or alternatively is there a better weekday to travel during the summer months?
Thanks in advance
Blackie

Hey, Blackie. When I lived in Germany, there was a ban on trucks on the Autobahn on Sundays. If that's still true (20 years have passed) that'd be my choice.

It is still true, but there is an exemption for trucks transporting perishable or essential goods. These are far and few between, and on the A1 from Hamburg through Lübeck to Puttgarden you'll have a few Scandinavian truckies who plead ignorance.

The thing about the A1 on a Sunday evening though is that if it's been a nice day, the traffic heading towards Hamburg from Neustadt-in-Holstein will be a nightmare. All the weekend-trippers from NRW and Niedersachsen looking for their beach fix... Shouldn't affect you though heading in the opposite direction.
