Default ANYONE IN FRANKFURT?

A friend is travelling to Frankfurt from the USA, he has his family and dog. His questions are:
Is it easy enough to change dollars to euro and where is the best place to change it?

Are there any good rental companies that he can rent from to get him to the UK? or failing that is it easy to pick up a cheap run around car to get him back to the UK?

Thanks to anyone who can respond with advice

Why wouldn't he fly? 17 Euros from Frankfurt Hahn to London Stansted (Just picked a random date). Rentals would be either impossible or very expensive for a one way trip and to buy a cheap car would be easy enough but he wouldn't be able to sell it in the UK and insurance would be expensive as they'll have the steering wheel on the other side/drive on the other side. Does he take the family and dogs from the US to FRA and then to the UK?

He will need to find a vet to treat the dog for heartworm (not more than 5 days but not less than 24 hours) before he is due to enter the UK, they also have to sign the pet passport which has to be presented at whichever crossing point he will take.

With regards to flying probably not worth it what you save on the cost of the flights you will most likely loose on transportation costs for the dog. Frankfurt Hahn airport is also not the most convenient airport to get to. 90 mins outside Frankfurt. You would also have to check to make sure that Stansted is an approved entry point for animals.

could find it very difficult to find a rental company that will allow pets in the vehicle and very few that will allow a oneway rental.

Insurance in Germany - need to be resident.

Is he relocating to Frankfurt for an extended period? He's going to Frankfurt, but needs to take the dog from Frankfurt to the UK? If he's bringing the dog from the US, but taking a trip/ holiday in the UK, he needs to board his dog in Germany, taking dogs on cross-border holidays, especially to/from the UK, is often more trouble than its worth.

And the currency? Everyone gives crappy rates on exchanging physical bank notes. Change a few dollars at the airport (say $100), and use credit cards as much as possible.

I'm also a bit confused about your friend's travelling itinerary with a dog, it could be complicated.

As for currency, I agree with Pulaski, get a few Euros at Frankfurt Airport, preferably from an ATM.
