Any retirees in Bavarian Alps region?
Hi All,
Looking to retire to Bad Reichenhall or similar area in the scenic Alps area of southern Germany near Salzburg and the Austrian border. Any expats enjoying life there? Any thoughts on housing types/prices, cost of living, German fluency requirement, and integration with local culture?

Germans re slow to make friends. Competence in spoken German will make it easier. Also membership of one of the hundreds of "Vereine". Do you have any hobbies that would help in getting into a "Verein". That could be anything from fishing to stamp-collecting to nudist football.

Nudist football. No, but your point is well taken, thanks. Sounds like clubs are a good way to find things in common and making friends. Probably for me hiking and outdoor activities in such a scenic area.

Given the nature of Germany, there is almost certainly a Nudist Football Scene there. They invented Nudism in the 19th century and are great footballers !
Ask at your local FKK Enthusiasts Club. (FKK=Freie Koerperkultur = Nudism)

Sounds like they just can't keep their clothes on outdoors doing sports. May need some mass psychoanalysis to address the issue. I'm an avid cyclist and can't imagine naturist bicycling!

Yes, I will. I was just making a little fun about the nudism fascination.

Had to look up "take the Mickey out" as that's an unknown expression here in the Midwest. (I didn't grow up in UK.) But got it now and couldn't agree more about some of those weird hobbyists!

Well I never knew that, long time since I lived in England! I even had to look up FKK
