I know someone from Saxony. According to her, the right wingery never really went away. But it is true that it has become more acceptable to air such views in public.

What I heard is that some members of the AfD praised the Wehrmacht.

Regarding immigration, Germany doesn't seem to be like Canada or Australia. The German immigration system seems to be a combination of extreme social liberalism and yet another chance for reconciliation for the Nazi atrocities. Thus not always the best and most pleasing people come to Germany. It is unfortunately not uncommon for children of immigrants to even struggle with German language skills, even though they have lived in Germany all of their lives.

The success of the AfD doesn't surprise me at all, even though I think their success is only very short lived, as none of their members have any experience in a federal government. And, no, I don't like them either. They are just a product of misguided immigration which has taken place in Germany for many decades, but also a product of a post-communist society in Saxony.

After all, Saxony is one of the provinces seeing the lowest influx of foreigners or refugees from the Arabic or Muslim world.

I am currently living in Lower Saxony. I have no idea how the vote went but my impressions of the Germans I have met so far are that of incredible patience, tolerance and acceptance of the need to help others, even those so visibly different to themselves. My German "requires improvement" but I have not once had any attitude from Germans who don't speak English.

I have not see any Third Reich shit.
