Nouveau diplôme national du brevet session 2017 - Histoire-géographie - Éduscol tells all, but is full of educational jargon. It seems that if you get good marks in all subjects during 3ème (Contrôle Continu), they'll make up for possible poor marks in the exams (Contrôle Final), and vice versa. The Brevet is awarded to Collégiens with more than 350 points in all. What is also new (at least to me) is the addition of Physics/Chemistry, Biology and Technology to the Maths exam., and an Oral on one of the pupil's projects. Hope this clarifies things!:) |

Which would means even with the new system they could still pass without getting any of their exams right. Im aware that attendance to the exam is mandatory but occasionally children will know they have already passed:blink: Info for other folks if your child comes home and says they got a "note" at school it means they have been disciplined and it remains on their school record a child's moyenne is their average in the class and you get a report every trimester which the child does not get to carry home. |

If a pupil (or the parents) want to go up to an elite lycée (in Paris for example), then they must aim to get as many points as possible in order to be selected. But your normal lycée will take any Collégien provided they've got their Brevet. Quite honestly, I'm glad things weren't as complicated in my daughters' days..... Bon courage, but I'd ask around among the other parents, they must be as confused as you/we are!;) |

Re: Idiots guide to the Brevet
This is the first year the system has been put in place and it is not well understood (or respected) in the colleges.
In practice, there will be no change from the current system where the results are decided in the conseil de classe. As you probably know, pretty well everyone (99%) will pass the brevet and the only thing that changes, depending on the continual assessment and the exam results, will be the "mention". |
Re: Idiots guide to the Brevet
Well our DS has just got his Brevet with a "mention bien" he is a bit pissed off because he was a few points short of a "très bien".

Re: Idiots guide to the Brevet
We have a young friend who has just failed her Brevet. She is fostered by a couple of very close friends who take on very troubled and damaged youngsters. The gilr has settled down very well over the last months and we have been helping her with some of her school work.
However the damage was done long ago when she first went to the local college and was , shall we say, difficult to handle, skipped off school etc etc. She even transferred school last year where she was doing much better even so her overall marks and "notes" were never eally going to be good enough. |

You can get into Lycee general even with very low Brevet marks. |
