Oh yes there is an alternative, apply for citenship in the country where you live like we are here in France, so are most of the Brits we know who have either worked or retired here.
We had this loaded on us with no say as we were not allowed to vote, as we're not for UK MP s.
What ever happens I for one will never return to the UK to live.

Or a carte de séjour, which is a cheaper option.
Was going to say, the carte de séjour might be easier because some Brits might have problems with the language requirement for citizenship. But funnily enough I just checked the carte de séjour page on the govt website to see if it had changed recently, and lo and behold they have just decided that they will introduce a French language requirement for the carte de séjour as from March 2018. Couldn't possibly have anything to do with Brexit could it
