Free sat problems
We purchased a free sat box in the uk so we could get some English TV .
We set up the dish and followed all the instructions we could get off the net.
However whatever we seem to do we cannot get a signal , we have pointed the dish at the Astra 28.2 satellite as instructed, I purchased a signal meter and did it with that but all to no avail.
Does anyone have any advice.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
Can't help on the TV front, but I noticed from your other thread that you're in the Auvergne and were asking about expats in the area. AFAIK there aren't all that many BE members there, and you may do well to try a dedicated Auvergne Expat forum, of the AngloInfo ilk.
On the other hand, if we can help with schooling, your professional activity, or the nitty-gritty of living in France in general, don't hesitate to ask more questions!
Sorry, I quoted the wrong post!
P.P.S. I've just discovered that AI hasn't got an Auvergne forum, and, as Bort-les-Orgues is on the other side from you, you could try AI Midi-Pyrénées North.

Re: Free sat problems
Have you checked the signal strength and quality being reported by the freesat box itself - in our experience it needs to be higher than about 60% to get a reasonable picture. What size dish are you using and what quality of LNB and cables as that has an effect as well?

Altitude, buildings, trees, sitting in a valley etc..all can have influence. In addition there is an "elevation" setting that you need to use to tilt the dish upwards and get optimal signal. In most of Europe you will need at least an 85cm dish for a good signal.
Plenty of info on the web.

Re: Free sat problems
I suspect it might well be the size/position of the dish.
Absolutely no expert but we have no problems despite living in a valley . We have a tame satellite man who was happy to set up the equipment we purchased in the UK. he understood all about Freesat plus too. I think this may well be an e.xample of find an expert.

You can also try this:
If you have only one sat cable IN make sure it is connected to SAT1.
The 28.2 E degrees just to confirm is 28.2 east of south about 161.8 degrees.

Did you test it in UK? could always be a defective box.. also, connecting the cables and the correct installation/trimming of the 'f' connectors is critical also.
