DNA tests

This is odd and a bit specialised I know.

Grandpa Bunz is an ardent family historian. More than that, in a former life he was a professional researcher.

At the moment there is an offer on a trusted site to have DNA testing, He has done it himself a few years ago but it was not as comprehensive th.n. He wants to get results for both of us but can't.

It seems that the French Government will not permit the transport of DNA samples abroad. Even paying for one on a none-UK card or bank account is forbidden,

Really????

Re: DNA tests

GB, what exactly are you asking?
How to get a dna test done in France?
How to get one done abroad?
Did any of us know about this rule?

I had a friendly and co-operative generaliste so I would have probably asked him to write a prescription and gone to the laboratoire in town to get it done.

Re: DNA tests

Sorry if I was unclear. I am simply asking if anyone knows, or could think of a reason , why a DNA test kit can not be sent from UK to France or paid for on any account which does not originate from a UK address, a be returned to the UK from France for specialist analysis "Because of French government regulations"
We believe we have found a way round this but are curious to know if there are such regulations?

ok, well it seems my generaliste would have been completely unable to help out...

Test de paternité : lois d'une bataille juridique

seems your OH's research on the subject is quite correct.

Re: DNA tests

I think we have got to the bottom of this A DNA test has been brought thanks to a friend but It must be returned from the UK this.

It is linked to the monopoly pharmacists, and the liek have in France and why, for example a huge range of medication, which would be avaialble over the counter in the UK and off the shelves in the USA can only be obtained on prescription here.

Private DNA tests for whatever reason are simply not available in France.

GB, this doesn't make a lot of sense to me. When items are freely available without prescription, then pharmacies sell lots more of them.

As for OTC stuff being more available - in particular painkillers which were taken off prescription only - both the USA and the UK have a huge problem with addiction to painkillers which from what I know, is not such a problem in France.

I thought of you last night as I walked down the "feminine products" aisle of my grocery store and saw a "paternity test" kit on sale next to everything else....

I must admit to being fairly hoorified at which medications are freely available in the USA but I do get a bit fed up here having to go way out of my way to buy a few paracetamol tablets from a pharmacy.

I wonder how much the paternity test you noticed are ???

The DNA tests we were looking to buy are for ancestral research.
