House storage and removal company
Hi
we are looking at moving to Brittany next year and are trying to gather some ball park figures of what costs to expect.
we will be selling our UK home and then renting for a while until we find the house we want in Brittany.
Does anyone have any suggestions for companies that would put our stuff in storage and then ship it over when we are in our new home?
Any rough estimates as to what this may cost (we live in the north of England)
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi
We used Luker Bros in Oxford who do part or full loads.
They also do storage but we only had a part load and we used a self-storage unit which was cheaper than the carrier storing the furniture.
Sometimes local removal companies use companies life Luker Bros as sub-contractors for international removals.

Re: House storage and removal company
We sold our house in Ipswich and moved to Uzes (Gard) where we are currently renting while our house is refurbished. When that is finished we will have our belongings brought here from storage. I have already started getting quotes.
We are storing most of the contents of a 4 bedroom house and storage costs (including insurance) are about £160 per month. It cost approximately £500 to remove the contents from our house into storage and a further £500 for a full packing service. (Well worth doing when you have as much glass and china as we do!).
I am currently being quoted approximately £4000 plus VAT for moving the stored goods from Ipswich to Uzes in a dedicated lorry with a crew from the removals company (the quickest way to get the goods here and the easiest to plan for in terms of time). I am awaiting quotes for moving on a part-load basis either with my removals company or one of their associates. This should be significantly cheaper but it can take several weeks to find a lorry with crew and space going in approximately the same direction so planning for it is more difficult.
I hope that helps you with budgeting. I would expect your moving costs to be cheaper because nowhere in Brittany if very far from a ferry terminal and there will be fewer overnight stays for the removal crew.
I would assume that there are a number of removals companies near you who could offer a similar service but good things have been said before on here about a company specialising in moves to France - Anglo-French Removals (see their website for details). They moved a friend of ours from Nottingham though they are actually based in Maidstone. He was very pleased with their service.
Good luck with your move.

My storage for a house minus sofa and electrical goods in Newcastle is £140 a month inc VAT (medium sized unit that is temperature controlled). A van (same size as medium sized unit) to run from North England is circa £2000 give or take £500. Or you can run a hire van yourself for roughly half that.

Re: House storage and removal company
We initially rented a fully furnished house with big garage/workshop for storing our possessions, which was cheaper than renting an additional storage space, and we had full access when we needed something from one of the boxes. Then when we bought a house it was just a case of hiring a van locally and doing a few trips to move it all ourselves. We used Hunts International, based in Reditch (a few years ago now) who are specialists in European removals, which we found very professional and good value compared with some of the bigger household names.
