Yes it's been scorching up in the Cotentin for the last few weeks. Been wearing sandals and my feet are striped like zebra's. Thanks for bringing a drop of rain with you Novo, we needed it!

A drop??? Anyway it was dry this morning and I sorted out the cour and mowed the lawn. Then I poured us an apéro and it started pissing down again.

Re: Back in Normandy
Chance would be a fine thing. Our promised violent storm turned out to be a couple of flashes, one loud bang and a huge power surge which fused our lighting circuit and blew 3 LED bulbs. Everything else being on surge blocks.
We had a little rain but nothing to wet the garden much. despite all of this Meteo France tells us that right now there is an orage overhead. The sky is blue.

Re: Back in Normandy
Ah well, the summertime in France is over for us for now. Back in not so sunny (but not that rainy) Newcastle for a while.
In July last year, we accepted a devis from a local macon to spruce up the street side and the Church side of our house, He said he'd start in October 2016. He actually started in April 2017 when we were last there. Then did a bit more in late May.
After that nothing much until June when he finished the street side. His work has been impeccable but won't be finished now before October this year (when we will be back for a month or so).
We've no problem with all this. C'est la vie en France.
But our stock in our village/small town has gone up remarkably for our investment in making the house next to the church (which we've never visited) appropriate for its location.
There may be a lesson in this tale, but I can't think of it right now.

It's so true too. That really gets up my nose, the number of times a plumber or other workman has arranged to come on a certain day, we cancel other arrangements to stay in, and get no visit - not even a telephone call to apologize! If I'd let a client down like that in work, I would have expected more than a boot up the derrriere. It never happened; we were employed to provide a 100% service, even if it meant working until the small hours to catch up, which we did and were proud of it. Different world!

Re: Back in Normandy
Your macon who said he'd start in October 2016 and actually started in April 2017, makes me think of 'A year In Province' where more than one of the local workforce preface their estimated deadlines with the word 'normalement'.
