Strong wind woke Gill up at about 4am and we had a phone call at 5.40am (UK timekeepers) and she said it seemed cyclonic. Then I caught up with your news that indeed it was a Tasha.

Glad you guys are OK and that Tasha stayed fairly peaceful
Watching her intensify around midnight was quite freaky, got very organised, all the satellite pics suddenly got clearer and then the Bureau rang and said she really was going to be a Christmas cyclone. All I could do then was wonder how strong she would get before the coast - and fortunately she didn't get much worse.
5.40am she would've been crossing the coast, I got an email from a colleague up there who said it felt like it too at that time. She made landfall around Yarrabah apparently.

If you carefully selected your words then all my fun would be gone

Merry Christmas to you too

I'm glad it stayed peaceful too! I was totally oblivious to it all and slept right through! It's only force of habit that made me check the BOM website this morning and was quite surprised

Thanks for your updates though Polly, it helps keep us all focussed and prepared! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and only good things happen for you in 2011.

Issued at 11:20 pm on Saturday 25 December 2010
Synoptic Situation: At 10:00 pm EST Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tasha had weakened into a broad rain depression north of Hughenden and was moving southwest at around 30 kilometres per hour. A 1020 hPa high in the southern Tasman Sea extended a firm ridge onto the Queensland east coast south of the cyclone.

Heavy rainfall and associated flooding will continue in coastal areas between Ingham and Bundaberg tonight, extending inland to southeastern parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, and through eastern parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields district.

On Sunday this heavy rainfall is forecast to move south between Mackay and the NSW border on the east coast and inland through the Central Highlands and Coalfields, the northeast Maranoa and Warrego and the northern Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for heavy rainfall leading to localised flash flooding
and potentially worsening
the existing river flood situation for people in the Maranoa, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia forecast districts and southern parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields district.

Issued at 11:10 am on Wednesday 5 January 2011

Synoptic Situation: At 10am EST, a trough extended from northwestern Queensland into the southern Maranoa. The trough is expected to intensify as it moves slowly east over the next 24 hours.

Thundery rain areas with some heavy falls are expected to develop this evening and overnight over the Maranoa, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts and southern parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. This heavy rain is expected to extend to the Capricornia and remaining parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett during Thursday. The rain will ease over the Maranoa, western Darling Downs and southwestern Central Highlands and Coalfields during Thursday.

Heavy rainfall may lead to localised flash flooding and/or worsen current river
flooding. Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams in these districts; refer to these products [www.bom.gov.au/qld] for further information.

The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should:
· avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters
· take care on the roads, especially in heavy downpours
· avoid swimming in swollen rivers and creeks

Contact the SES on 132 500 for emergency assistance if required. If the situation is life threatening please call 000.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:00 pm Wednesday

Hmmmm posted at 8pm, wonder how the next hour or so went.........a few miles down the road Bowen Hills recorded 60mm between 9pm &10pm. Campbell Street apartments were turning their car park into a boating lake again......

Edited - its Brisbane's turn: Storms have heralded more weather chaos in the southeast, with an overnight downpour of 70mm in less than an hour ahead of a further 100mm expected today.
The second system is expected to approach this morning, dumping up to 100mm of rain on parts of Brisbane after yesterday evening's storm caused havoc in inner suburbs and knocked out powerlines in the Lockyer Valley.
About 50 cars were flooded in inner-suburban Brisbane last night as the deluge triggered flash flooding with at least eight roads either closed or affected.

Must have missed Kenmore area mostly. Rain gauge this morning says we had 10mm overnight only. Pool is still fine. That's usually tell tale sign of heavy rain if it's green.
