A grass fire is burning in the Smiths Lane, Springdale area and to the west of Stockinbingal. The fire is currently 3200 hectares in size and is out of control
.

Current Situation

A southerly change has now moved across the fireground and is pushing the fire in a northerly direction towards the township of Stockinbingal. Whilst the township is not currently under threat the fire may reach Stockinbingal by 7:30pm.

An emergency alert text message is being sent to residents in the Stockinbingal area.

The Burley Griffin Way west of Stockinbingal has now been closed.

NSW RFS crews working to protect homes in the area and are being further assisted by 6 waterbombing aircraft.

Under these conditions, fires are uncontrollable and move quickly. Embers will be blown ahead of the fire, creating spot fires that will move quickly and in different directions. These spot fires may threaten your home earlier than the predicted main fire front.

Advice

Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, know what you will do if the fire threatens your property.

Take advice from firefighters.

Well prepared, actively defended homes can offer safety during the fire.
