This rain...QLD

Re: This rain...QLD
I can't get over how many poor little kids I saw walking to school this morning.
No umbrella and absolutely saturated for the day.
I just don't get parents who leave littlies to walk to school on their own and/or leave kids of any age to walk to school in the pouring rain without an umbrella.

Re: This rain...QLD
Its expected to be very heavy all the way down the coast from about Maryborough to the Border for the next 24 hours. Possibility of 300 mm in places in that time, some places have already had 200mm.
Caused by a trough off the coast.
Most rivers in the coastal area are at Moderate or Major flood level; the ground is saturated and is unable to absorb more as it is falling so heavily.
Dam releases are being considered and in some cases are already occurring. Many roads are under water and some places are being warned to evacuate.
Not up to TC Tasha level yet, a long way from last year, but it is a particularly strong system producing a lot of rain in a very short time - in some of the previous summers over the last 10 years or so there has been plenty of rain but rarely as concentrated as this.
The biggest problem at present is that the ground is saturated so flood waters will rise fast. Please stay out of them

It's rained a lot but no where near last years efforts or other years come to that. Ask me again when it's still hissing it down in a week's time. Tiddler's going to school tomorrow, she's got a three day week this week, bloody silly sending them back the week of Aus Day. Why don't QLD Ed start them back after the 26th???????

Re: This rain...QLD
My daughter has just come back from the Gold Coast swimming camp- horribly sunburned on her back, as the mates she trusted to cream her did a poor job. (She didn't mention any rain!!!)
It is quite wet here in Sydney too- going to drain some water out of the pool in a bit.......
The area around her straps looks like she has burned herself in the oven, and the rest is scaly and tomato red. I'm creaming it, but not sure what else to do. Any tips?

I'd disagree there. I've been here for 10 years now and the last 2 have been the wettest summers in that time. Yes the news is milking it, but before Oct 09 we had a good 6 years of drought. The only rain we got in that time was through the odd flash storm and then it would be all dry again, nothing like the torrential downpours of the last 2 years
The dam levels bottomed out in August 2007. They first spiked up over the summer 2007/8 (it was wet!)...then again as you said over Winter 2009. But it rained a lot over the whole period, and at strange times of the year like Winter. It wasn't just the odd storm popping up...these things don't generally fill the dams.

This is the bit I'm disagreeing with...I escaped, sorry left Brisbane in Jan 09 and I remember plenty of prolonged rain spells.
