Re: QLD SOUTH OF MACKAY/NORTH NSW - TROPICAL CYCLONE MARCIA
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, HEAVY RAINFALL, ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DANGEROUS SURF
For people in the
Southeast Coast and parts of the
Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts.
Issued at 7:47 am Saturday, 21 February 2015.
Synoptic Situation:
At 7:40am the centre of ex-tropical cyclone Marcia was near Gympie and was travelling to the south southeast at 20 km/hr. An area of heavy rainfall extends around the southern side of the system, currently over the northern reaches of the Southeast Coast forecast district.
Three hour rainfall totals of up to 100mm were observed earlier this morning near ex-tropical cyclone Marcia, and are possible as it continues to move southwards.
Ex-tropical cyclone Marcia, and its rainfall should continue moving to the south-southeast today, producing a period of heavy rainfall lasting two to four hours over the remaining parts of the Southeast coast forecast district. This should be followed by a rapid clearance, with the heavy rain contracting off the Gold Coast by late afternoon.
Water levels on the high tide are likely to be near or to exceed the highest tide of the year in exposed coastal areas today between Burrum Heads and Coolangatta. Dangerous surf and beach erosion is also expected on exposed beaches today between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta.
There is still the chance of some damaging gusts of about 90 km/hr within the warning area, and some locally destructive gusts of around 125 km/hr over parts of the Southeast Coast district today. A separate severe thunderstorm warning has been issued to highlight the areas where the locally destructive winds are possible.
Locations which may be affected include Hervey Bay, Gympie, the Gold Coast, the Lockyer Valley, Ipswich, Brisbane, Caboolture, and the Sunshine Coast and Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Surf Life Saving Australia recommends that you stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas.
* Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

QUuensland Police - A live saving message:
If it’s flooded, forget it
Police are again warning motorists not to ignore road closure signs as they could be protecting travelers from washouts, craters and other hazards, and not to attempt to cross flooded roads, causeways or water courses.
Earlier this morning, police from Woodford were called out in adverse weather conditions after reports that a vehicle had entered flood waters on Neurum Road at around 1.30am.
The vehicle, being driven by an 18-year-old man from North Lakes, was submerged in the flood waters.
The man, who managed to get himself to safety, was given a $159 traffic infringement notice for disobeying signage. The cost for the vehicle will be a lot more with the car remaining waterlogged and stranded in the flood waters.
The area of road was low lying and had water over the road for about two kilometres.
The man was, luckily, uninjured.
