What if Australia became a Republic?

What if Australia became a Republic?
Love the idea or not, (I don't) what would it actually mean to us on a day to day basis if Australia became a Republic?

The Queen Street Mall would become Sir Les Patterson Avenue, other than that business as usual.

We all have a wee sing song and a largish beverage to celebrate.

Sure, why not? It wouldn't make any difference to your UK citizenship.
On the contrary, a republic gives us an opportunity to reduce the size of government. We could also eliminate those pointless colonial hangovers who simply leech off the taxpayer every year, like the GG and state governors. (Having said that, I quite like our current GG; she's a good egg).

Re: What if Australia became a Republic?
The big question is what form the republic should take. How should the head of state be voted in and who should nominate candidates? What functions should the head of state take? Should the head of state be ceremonial or have executive powers?
My observations of the last referendum were that the people did not trust the politicians to vote for their president.
A republic will happen.

Having a president instead of the Queen of Australia as head of state will make pretty much no difference to every day life. It would just something "nice" for some people.
Of course, in 1933 WA had a referendum, and the people voted in favour of secession from the federation. Perhaps the results of this vote could be put into place, and all those in favour for the republic live there, and the sensible people live in the eastern half.
