Spent all night in the coordination cntre, and yes, we were concerned about them but nothing we can do, out of our jurisdiction. However the tsunami risk in the Pacific is well known and well planned for by the island nations, and there was a good few hours warning of its approach.

So did anything happen? Did we have any big waves? Obviously not huge ones - I think I'd have heard but was there anything recorded?

Two men in a row boat apparently reported it being "a bit choppy".

Water levels rose by a few centimetres off Tasmania, with waves expected to increase in size over the next few hours.
Australian officials warned of possible rises of up to 40 centimetres and strong currents for several hours rolling up the east coast.
"At the moment we're really in the first few minutes of it," said Alasdair Hainsworth, the Bureau of Meteorology's acting assistant director of services.

I did read up on it and obviously plans are in place. I just had visions of people being swamped while British expats discussed a rough day at the beach.
I see you are in emergency management, so now understand your resons for posting. Are you in Queensland by any chance?
We live on the Gold Coast, much of which on the east side of the Pacific motorway is basically on a flood plain. The council maps of potential flooding make interesting reading and I wonder how many residents are aware that their properties are covered in blue.
Is there actually a serious risk of natural disaster from the sea to much of the new development on the Gold Goast.

Sanctuary Cove is a very strange place, we love the village theatre and it's a good place to eat but the artificial feel of the place is amazing, almost sinister with the security everywhere. We keep going back!
