I wouldn't be a bit surprised though if a lot of insurance companies find people cancelling or not renewing their policies now they realise they are not worth the soggy paper they are written on...
Would *you* underwrite a property that's built in a flood prone area, knowing that every few years you will have to pay out many times what premium you collect? 'Cos *I* bl**dy wouldn't.

Will the 1/4 of Victoria that is underwater get any of this levvy? Or is it just for the QLDers?

I do resent paying it.....whilst I am behind any aid we give to Pakistan etc etc, I also believe that we have enough for our own disasters too. So what if the budget isnt in surplus by next year. Too many people are doing it tough. For those of you whinging cos you earn over the $100k, suck it up, seriously

But... but... they're Howard's battlers! How will they afford an extra $5 per week for 12 months?!

Well said. Hockey has dismissed the levy as "dumb", but I don't hear any alternative proposals. Meanwhile, Colin Barnett is supporting the levy in defiance of Abbott!

Away with your sensible comments and logical observations! This is not the time for clear-headed thinking!

Speaking of flight attendents, have we ever stopped paying the Ansett levy introduced by Howard?

I"ll leave the collection part up to my accountant, but I should imagine it will be an end of year tax levy on ones tax form.

Re the 5 dollars PW on the 100k I wonder how the tax thresholds will work on the calculation.
It doesnt matter if it is only for a year...so many people have given very generously to flood appeals etc etc that have been going on for weeks, which has been their choice and generocity..this is just bull shit
