Default El Niño is forecast

BOM have finally upgrade to a declared El Niño event for this winter, spring and summer.

ENSO Wrap-Up
Bureau of Meteorology officially declares a major El Nino; predicts drier, hotter conditions - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Though with the amount of rain we've been getting, I'm not seeing those 'dryer than average' conditions...

(to be fair, they do point to the warmer-than-average Indian Ocean dominating the weather)

We did point out the rainfall to our Bureau guy at work, but he is sticking to the 'We have an El Nino' line.
I thn diverted his attention by pointing out the cyclone building near the Solomons and he lost interest in El Nino and started playing with cyclone models instead Far more colourful he reckons!
