Default Photography and Video thread

Well on the back of my failure of 'The skiing thread' I thought I'd start this one.

I got an action cam for Xmas. The Sony AS30. Not the newest on the market and not up there with the GoPro Hero 4 Black but it does a nice job. Was on special. Its got the 120 fps slow motion thing happening which is pretty cool. Was at the beach yesterday and throwing the camera up in the air on the slow motion mode is pretty cool.

So need to do some video editing. In the past I've used Adobe Premiere and I have Camtasia currently which is a bit crap.

Any recommendations on some good video editing software. Free would be good.

I'm sure there are free ones, but I use Sony Vegas Studio and it is awesome. You can download 30 day trials to see if you like them.

Interesting. Thanks Alf

There is a leaflet in the packaging for the Sony AV30 offering Movie Studio 13 Platinum for free.

There's a few video editors on that link. Which do you use?

Thanks Bix. I tempted to buy some quality product now. I do recall checking out the freebies a number of years back. Any idea what the pick of the products are on the market now?

Sorry, I don't mate.
I only do very basic cropping and conversion and use Freemake Video Converter for that.

I have an older version Studio Platinum 9. A colleague at work just got the basic version for his GoPro and loves it.

Cool. When I get back to a partial internet connection let's see if we can make golf and fishing interesting.

I need a good editing app, I've tried a few free ones but they don't do what I want which is to crop certain sections from the vid and then roll it into one so that it looks flawless.

Any ideas? Also what other platform can I use rather than Youtube to display my vids?

Mollycoddle,
I have used AVS video editor for years. you do have to pay, but only once then you get all the updates free, plus you can download and use ALL of their programs. I have a full range of audio and video programs from them.
video editor is great. you can cut individual frames out, or whole sections, rejoin whats left, or rearrange the position of clips , add music, add text in loads of different types etc, etc. Once done you can save your video in lots of different formats to suit - Ipad, android, TV etc etc.

AVS4YOU Top-ranked multimedia tools: video converter, video editor, audio converter, audio editor, image converter and more.

Their support line is good. There's and email link on the website and they respond quickly. They have helped me out a good few times - for example i had trouble getting a video to fade to black before the credits. spent hours trying to do it, emailed them, answer back in 24 hours and problem solved!
i have NO relationship with this company , just used their products and found they suit me fine. There are free packages out there but AVS suit me.

Have fun!

OK got version 12 free with the camera. Works pretty well. Lots of effects. Some bloke posted a good tutorial in YouTube. Need to keep working at it and finding tricks. Seems to be a pretty comprehensive application.

Awesome. Shouldn't take too long to learn the basics. It is comprehensive for sure.

Ok back to the action cam. I'm new to it but these things are a lot of fun. Tested out the time lapse stuff. Bondi beach waking up, clouds going across the sky. Slow mo on the 120 fps at 1080p is a good one. Next up. The drone for skiing in the Alps next week. Looks like it needs a bit of practice.
