Default Earthquake in Melbourne

About 20 mins ago we had a freaking Earthquake here! It seriously shook the house for about 3-4 seconds, literally felt like half the house shifted a couple of feet to one side and then back again.

Had reports from friends and people on BritVics who felt it from the CBD to as far as Mornington.

Wow

Couldn't feel a thing here. I could look out of the window to see if the frames on the new builds are level, if they are there must have been a quake

Scared the hell out of me - just settling the girls down to sleep and I thought all their trinkets were going to come off their shelves

I said all the rain after such a dry period had made the earth all wobbly

Did'nt know they had earthquakes in Melbourne, never heard of one happening there before. Melbourne this years had Bushfires , record 46 degrees heatwave a drought and now an Earthquake , what next a volcano eruption.

I was cooking dinner at the time, doing a stir fry, and all the food started jigging around in the pan. I was cooking kangaroo, but didn't expect it to be still jumping!

They happen everywhere - it's just that places like L.A., situated as they are right on the fault line between two tectonic plates - get 'em a lot worse. The UK gets nearly 300 earthquakes a year and every decade or so, one of those will be a five magnitude or higher. In fact there was a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in the north of England just last year.
