A sonic boom has shaken coastal areas of south-east Queensland sparking fears of an earthquake.
The ABC switchboard has been flooded with calls from people in the Brisbane area who have felt walls shake and seen windows rattle.
The tremor was felt at Clontarf, on Brisbane's bayside and on Stradbroke and Bribie Islands, and at Deception Bay and Redlands.
Patrick Leahy from north of Brisbane says you could not miss it.
"I felt a very sharp sudden shaking of the house [and] windows and doors rattling quite viciously," he said.
Paul Lineham from Defence Public Affairs says an F-111 being tested off-shore created a sonic boom.
"Now normally people on the coast won't hear or feel that but sometimes the sound waves can get trapped in a temperature inversion layer which obviously happened in this situation and it broke closer to shore," he said.

I got woken up by an earthquake in San Francisco once. Woke up; thought "oh it's just an earthquake" and then went back to sleep.
I used to work in an office in Brentford, London, near the railway track. Everytime a train went by the Californians used to dive under the tables.
Cheers

Interesting that Newcastle earthquake was 5.6 on the scale according to that link, yesterday's sonic boom was 4.2 I believe , or 4.4 something like that, according to last nights news.
On the news last night it had some bloke showing all the cracks in his paving slabs. I missed all the fun - I was in work , but my home is in the pine rivers area. Apparently, some neighbours ( old woman living next door to me) felt it, she said it frightened the life out of her... mind you she'd say she felt it even if she didn't.
I still don't believe the defence ,( half joking) - notice it is not "official release yet by them .. or it wasn't official last night on the news lol.
