Dangerous Surf - ex-TC Winston - Southeast Qld

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DANGEROUS SURF
For people in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:52 pm Friday, 26 February 2016.
Synoptic Situation:
At 4pm AEST, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Winston was approximately 850km east of Brisbane. It will continue tracking in a general westerly direction this evening before most likely shifting northwest early Saturday morning and during the weekend.
The system is expected to retain an intense wind structure up until at least Sunday. Winds and waves are expected to increase about southern Queensland beaches south of Sandy Cape on Saturday, leading to dangerous surf conditions and significant beach erosion.
Water levels on the high tide could possibly exceed the highest tide of the year about exposed beaches of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast and also Stradbroke and Moreton Islands during tonight and through Saturday.

The system should start to weaken from Sunday, with winds and waves gradually decreasing along the southern Queensland coast.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Surf Life Saving Australia recommends that you stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas.
* Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items.
* If near the coastline, stay well away from the water's edge.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 10:55 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at Australia's official weather forecasts & weather radar - Bureau of Meteorology or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Tropical Cyclone Outlook for Coral Sea
Issued at 3:04 pm EST on Friday 26 February 2016
for the period until midnight EST Monday 29 February 2016.
Existing Cyclones in the Eastern Region:
Nil.

Potential Cyclones:

At 3pm AEST, vigorous Ex-tropical cyclone Winston is moving west over the southern Coral Sea and remains almost 900km offshore of Queensland. The system is expected to move in a general northwesterly movement over the next few days, bringing it into the Bureau of Meteorology's Eastern Region of responsibility early Saturday, but remaining well offshore of the Queensland coast.

Ex-TC Winston is still currently under strong wind shear, severely limiting its potential to redevelop into a tropical cyclone. Later tonight or early Saturday the system will encounter a more favourable environment allowing it a small window of opportunity to regain tropical cyclone structure. During Saturday the shear is forecast to increase again over the system and the system will weaken.

The ex-tropical cyclone is forecast to generate large and powerful surf along the southern Queensland coast until at least Sunday.

Likelihood of a tropical cyclone in the Eastern Region on:
Saturday:Low
Sunday:Very Low
Monday:Very Low
