"Weather nerd porn" is how this pic of the eye of Ului is referred to by a poster on Weatherzone I have to say I agree, its s a stunning image. Apparently the name Ului, when translated, means something like "to dumbfound or amaze".....sounds fairly accurate to me. This is one heck of a system......
Still not in Qld waters - the Bureau don't take over until the centre reaches our area, (which is the 160 degree line) Cat 4 already..... probably become a QLd responsibility about 1600-1700 today our time, personally I want her to hold off for another couple of hours so she turns up on my shift, but thats just being greedy, I already had Nevillethis year after all!!.....
Bureau State forecast this morning - its going to be very windy along the coast all week, but until the track is more certain rthat's the best anyone can say.....
TC Ului is expected to continue to move very slowly, initially in a W'ly direction and then in a SW'ly direction. Gale force winds may temporarily ease to strong winds on Monday for most of the east coast. However, gale force winds may return to the central parts of the east coast from Tuesday and may increase further by late week depending on the movement and intensity of TC Ului. Similarly, the weather over the south-east and central coastal areas of the state may increasing by late week.

Re: Cyclone Season......Queensland - TC Ului
Ului has appeared and developed to Cat 5 very quickly. Google earth shows just how big it is.
Brisbane/GC hasnt had a cyclone for a long time http://www.bom.gov.au/lam/climate/le...c/cyclone3.htm and this may just be the one to test local preparedness.
There was a Cat 2 back in the early 90's that was forecast to hit Brisbane. Nothing became of it but it did cause major damage to vehicles as drivers panicked trying too get home.
Might just go and track down the remnants of our cyclone kit, just in case. I may regret having sold our 2 gensets in Cairns when we left, oh well.

Re: Cyclone Season......Queensland - TC Ului
Some charts seems to have a 6 on them but officially there is no category 6, and I think its down to the pixellating of the type-face. TC Ului is still a 5 and is due to enter Aus waters at some point tonight (during my shift)
She is still a long way offshore, as WW has pointed out, today being the 14th, landfall is still 5-6 days away, and we will have a far better idea long before then as to where she is likely to come ashore. And yes, I will post it on here, but please remember that it has to take second place to work and even I take time off BE occasionally
I did think it was quite funny when I walked in tonight and someone from the day shift had been googling Ului and come up with a link to this thread. Good thing I am(usually) polite about the boss when posting on here

Once she enters Australian waters, Ului can be tracked here - http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/cyclone/ when I have the audacity to take time off and go to the pub without my laptop
