seasonal work in regional WA
Hi guys,
Not sure if this is the right area to post but hey ho.
I am coming to oz in march, initially on a working holiday visa and i wish to obtain a 2nd year visa also - so yes that means 3 months fruit picking!!
I will be residing in western australia (perth) for much of the trip as my brother is there. So, i would just like to know or obtain any shout outs/recommendations for good places to work in WA for the 3months i have to do. I would preferably like to pick strawberries or graps (cos i can eat them lol). Also i would prefer piece work and obviously a decent wage per bin.
If anyone has experience of fruit picking in WA (preferably the south ie albany) if you could tell me good employers and wage rates that would be great.
I am not sure when i will do the 3 month stint so if you could tell mw what months you did the work that would be great
Many thanks for anyone's help
Much love

she's been all over australia and worked on all kinds of places... stopped off at us after doing Bee farming... stayed a while then went on her way again...
I know that sometimes some of the farmers slip their workers a bit of cash.. I was going to say for extras...but that might be misinterpreted on here... actually it WOULD be misinterprepted

There seem to be a few websites to help you plan your horticultural adventure, eg http://www.workstay.com.au/backpacker_harvest_jobs.htm
If it were me, I'd understand more about the weather patterns here and when crops get picked. The Great Southern, which includes Albany and other places such as Walpole, Denmark and Mt Barker, are all grape-growing regions (as is Swan Valley close to Perth) and other crops, Manjimup is another horticultural area. Plus there's the Margaret River area. Hospitality businesses often have trouble finding workers, especially during a resources boom. Doing a barista course would be helpful before you come over. Areas such as the Great Southern are much cooler than the Perth area and all points north, so if you want to work outside during summer, it would be more comfortable there. It's also much cooler in the south during winter, which might suit some people, or you can head north for some heat.
