This is an Emergency Warning issued by Country Fire Authority for Moyston.

There is a fast moving, out of control grassfire travelling in a southerly direction from Campbells Reef Road towards the Moyston township.

You are in danger, act now to protect yourself.
It is too late to leave. The safest option is to take shelter indoors immediately.

Safety Information
When indoors:
Close all exterior doors, windows and vents and turn off cooling systems.
Shelter in a room that has a door and or a window to the outside - It is critical to keep an eye on what is happening with the fire.
If you cannot get indoors, other last resort options include:

A large open area like a ploughed paddock, football oval or sporting reserve.
A large body of water like a dam, lake, river, the ocean or inground pool.
Try to protect yourself from the fire's heat.
In the car:

Park behind a solid structure to block the fire's heat or pull over to a cleared area.
Try to position the car towards the approaching fire.
Put on your hazard lights and headlights.
Turn the engine off, close all windows and ensure that car air vents are closed.
Get down as low as possible below window level and cover up with a woolen blanket.
If you are travelling, do not enter the area, U-turn to safety.

If you are away from home, do not return.

If you need medical advice for burns or smoke exposure call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024

This is an updated Emergency Warning issued by Country Fire Authority for Moyston, Rocky Point, Willaura North, Maroona.


The MOYSTON grassfire is currently not yet under control.

The fire has now crossed the Mortlake-Ararat Road.

You are now in immediate danger, act now to protect yourself. Emergency Services may not be able to help you.

A Community Meeting will be held at 7:00pm this evening at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre in Ararat.

A relief center is open at the Ararat Town Hall, corner of Barkley and Vincent Streets, Ararat.

Traffic Management Points are currently being put in place at the following locations:

•Ararat Halls Gap Road at Jallukur (near Pomonal) and west of Ararat at the Rhymney intersection.
•Moyston Willaura Road at the Andrews Rd intersection.
•Moyston Great Western Road at the Rhymney Rd intersection.
•Moyston Dunkeld Road at Barton Station.
•Mortlake Ararat Road at Andrews Lane and Denicall Creek Road.


The next update is expected by 02/01/15 6:30 PM or as the situation change.

There is a large grassfire travelling fast in a south easterly direction from north of Moyston towards Moroona. The fire has crossed the Mortlake Ararat Road nears the Burrumbeep Road.

This grassfire is currently not yet under control.

Fire crews have stopped the head of a grass fire that was burning out of control south of the township of Moyston, west of Ararat, in western Victoria, but one home has been lost.

The emergency warning for communities south of Moyston, including Rocky Point, Willaura North and Maroona, has been downgraded to a watch-and-act message.

Watch And Act

This is an updated Watch and Act message issue by CFA and Department of Environment and Primary Industries for Cathcart, Denicull Creek, Langi Logan, Maroona, Moyston, Rocky Point, Willaura North.


Firefighters have stopped the head of the grass fire in the Moyston area. The fire size is approximately 4714 hectares. The fire status is not yet under control.
Crews are patrolling the fire overnight and preparing for Extreme conditions tomorrow.

While the immediate threat has passed, leaving now is the safest option, as conditions may change again suddenly with Extreme weather conditions expected tomorrow.

A Community Meeting at Ararat was attended by 100 people.

A relief center is open at the Ararat Town Hall, corner of Barkley and Vincent Streets, Ararat.

Note for farmers who have affected livestock:

b) Take photographs to show condition of livestock.
c) Record any other information that insurer requests.
d) Record numbers of animals dead or destroyed.

The next update is expected by 03/01/15 9:00 AM or as the situation changes.
Safety information:
Remember to take your prescriptions and medication, photo ID, bottles of water, your mobile phone and charger and consider what you will do with your pets.
When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights; smoke will make it difficult to see.
If you have time, check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions.
Contact a family member or friend to tell them what you plan to do now.

Weather Situation
Hot to very hot on Saturday with a fresh to strong and gusty north to northwesterly wind ahead of a cooler southwesterly change extending from the southwest during the afternoon, moving through central and northwestern districts late in the afternoon and evening and reaching eastern areas by early Sunday.

For Saturday 3 January:
Extreme Fire Danger is forecast for the following forecast districts:
Mallee, Wimmera, North Central, South West and Central
Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the following forecast districts:
Northern Country and West and South Gippsland
The CFA advises that you
