We've dealt with just about every travel insurance company in Australia. Would never deal with GIO again, they kept ignoring our claim last year, in the end we had to enlist the assistance of the original agent and then send them registered letters until they actually started to talk to us. We will probably stick with the Mondial group, their office is in Queensland. We've had policies with Mondial in the past, everything seems to go very smoothly and our one and only claim with them a few years ago was handled promptly and efficiently. They are part of a large international group and can provide support in just about any country. I should mention that I am a travel industry retiree and now take out an annual policy covering trips up to $10,000, at a concessionary rate. We just need to take additional insurance for any trips above that amount.

Are you sure you need it? If you really think you do, then ask yourself what you are most likely to need it for and make sure the policy covers it.
I've found most travel insurance a waste of time - if you read the small print they often don't cover you for the things you're most likely to need.
I certainly woldn't bother with travel insurance if travelling in the same country - I assume you're already covered for medical costs through medicare and/or private medical insurance?
And are you really taking anything that expensive it needs covering?
Just make sure if you do get it, it's worth it
