Basically it's an invention of the liberal party. It's an election year and 'goodfellows' Matthew Guy is well, well, behind. This was a manufactured little new story sprung in the new year to try an prop up the woeful polling of the mobster's friend.

You can tell it's done with liberal premeditation because Spudface Dutton has piped up on the manufactured issue, telling Melbournites that they are too afraid to go to Melbourne restaurants - all from someone who's never been the place and was talking on Sydney radio ....

Needless to say, it's been so crassly done, particularly by Dutton, that most people have seen it for what it is.

Well, Andrews is going to get a kicking when he's down and the media portrays his state as out of control - that's politics.

Politics aside there does appear to be some hard core action. Gangs, individuals running havoc with vehicles.

Nothing but politics. But where it could be becoming increasingly 'out of control' is with large population growth, mostly through excessive immigration and over inflated housing prices.


Melbourne has increasing infrastructure issues I believe, but at least has the best public transport system in Australia.


Why they want to over take Sydney over time in numbers though, which will lead to diminished life quality who knows?

Dude, for the most part wrong thread, but it has been suggested that the wrong type of immigration may be part of the reason for Melbourne's current violence problems.

By the way, 'gang type' problems are hardly new in Melbourne. The term is used loosely but creates the desired impact.


Looks like getting tough by stigmatising a particular group, or two. Meanwhile the floodgates remain wide open for others.....

Just spoke to friends. It is a problem for particuLar marginalised areas...there are places on the edge of Melbourne accessible to gangs.
Eg Cranborne.

Also areas on the W and N fringes (eg trendy Essendon was in the news)are copping it as gangs are closer and can get in and out.

The people who dont see this live in the inner E and SE who are fortressed by the established ring of suburbia.

A lot of cultures meet in large groups a reflection in part from the society they originated. Doesn't mean 'gangs' in the form we associate the term with.


I recall being told many decades back by A Maltese Australian in London, the violence in Sunshine, Melbourne. He was in a 'gang' partly for protection, partly just a group of mates, of similar ancestry, that looked out for one another, during a period of 'wog ' bashing by Anglo Australian groups.

Muslims meet in large groups in parks in Melbourne's north..but they don't invade homes or smash through walls. Subject is crime sprees..now..by marginalised groups..the inner W and parts of NW are prone as there are marginalised demographics to their boundaries..

And it was Muslim Lebanese that got a bad name for anti social behaviour back in last century. Vietnamese got a bad name in Sydney for dealing in drugs. And so on. Marginalised people regardless of ethnicity are more prone to such behaviour.

Deportation has been a method in use for some years. Nothing new. As I said nothing but politics. Anybody would think Victoria has an election coming up. ....Oh wait a minute........
