I know that there was no damage and that it was in the middle of the Indian Ocean however, I am surprised that no-one has posted this yet ?

Middle of the ocean, no damage, no tsunami alert. Quakes of that magnitude happen on the other side of Aus every week - around Tonga, Fiji etc, also in Indonesia, many of those are felt in Darwin. They rarely even hit the news, never mind BE :)
