Moving to Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Hi All,

I've not used this forum for a while, since I left Abu Dhabi.

I am wondering if anyone can give me some pointers about life in Kaohsiung or Taiwan in General.

Cheers

Abu

Rather difficult to get my hands on the local currency, the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD), in the UK. I went to Marks and Spencer and was told that they don't have NTD in stock.

You may also find the FCO's travel advice on Taiwan helpful -

Kaohsiung! I was there in 1990 on a project. I haven't been back since, but it is on my list to visit again. I can only imagine it being a better experience now than it was then, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

I'm moving to Taiwan later this year (near Taipei). I have visited a few times in the last couple of years so I have some knowledge. It's a nice country, very low crime rate and good transport infrastructure and healthcare. The mountains in the centre are really nice to visit (also Sun Moon Lake). The mosquitoes are a nightmare!

If you are not familiar with earthquakes or typhoons you may want to read up about those. Being prepared would make the first experience less scary.
