Question Advice Needed!!

Hi Everyone!

This may sound like an odd request but I would really appreciate any advice or insights you could give me, even if you may not think its relevent.

Basically my partner and I have decided that we would like to leave England but we are not sure where we would like to go. We have travelled around New Zealand, France, Hong Kong and Portugal but are aware there are many more places which could potentially really suit us.

So in short we would like any suggestions you may have on countries, areas or cities which you would recommend, I understand this is a massive task, but like I said before, any advice you could give would really help us!

Here is a little more information which about us which might give you a better idea about the kind of place we are looking for. We are both 23 and have secure careers; Im finishing a PhD in Public Health and Health Commissioning at a good university and my partner is a Civil Engineer. We cant move until 2012 when I've finished my course and my partner is chartered, but we both have good degrees and are happy to travel until then to find the right place.

Ideally we would like to live somewhere where are money will go further than it is in the UK, and once settled would like to also move my parents out there too, even if it means employing them privately as our accountant and babysitter!

We would like somewhere that uses the same alphabet as English and is relatively liberal, other than that we are pretty easy!! Any advice or insight you can give would be majorly appreciated, and thanks again for reading this post

Thanks Mysea

Your partner doesn't have to remain in UK to become chartered.

Working overseas shouldn't in my opinion be considered as a holiday but part of a long term career move.

First and foremost is where you can find a job.

You may wish/want all you like to transfer to a particular place but without jobs it won't work.

I've always said that I wish I'd worked in HK from a younger age.

We enjoyed our time there, the salary package was great and we had fun.
Though we never considered it, we wouldn't have moved our parents there but we were much older than you and consequently our parents were older.

It may be that the parents would find it easier to get a job than you two.

Planning for 2012 at your age seems a bit premature to me.

Make a shortlist of say 5 places. Google like mad.
Join 'Rail personnel', they have jobs in various sectors not just railways although your partner will find their openings more useful than you and they offer positions in many countries that you may like to try.
Visit the countries on your short list.

With luck you'll get more help from others on here.

Good luck.

I see you've posted in all forums (sensible) so guess you are just looking for Far East ideas on this one.

Who knows how things will be in 2012. The recession is going to affect everyone but, assuming, everything's back to normal in 2012 - worth checking out Singapore? I've always thought it's a good place to work, English (or something like it) is spoken widely. Though I'm not sure about the bringing out parents idea. Others in Singapore might have more detailed response.

And what sort of place would your parents be happy with?

I'm sure the other forums will come up with some other stuff. You've been to New Zealand - would have thought that might be interesting, lots of opportunities.

best of luck with your big task !!
