Getting the F out of the UK

Hi all,
as you can tell from the thread tittle, I really want to leave the UK. The reasons for this are simple. I hate the social, political and economic situation here. As far as I'm concerned this country has no real future. I'm desperate to live in a free country. My criterion for my new place to live is pretty simple. I'd love to live somewhere that isn't socialist, and where you can own guns without too much trouble. I was thinking the US but I hear it's super tricky. Now I'm thinking Switzerland or somewhere similar.

To be honest I'm not an attractive migrant, my current profession is Gardening and I don't have a degree. So low skilled work will be what I do until I find my feet. I'll do anything to live somewhere free, I'll scrub toilets, I do not care. However I'm middle class and very personable, so super employable in person, just not on paper.

What would my chances be of finding work and getting residency?

P.S. I know that socialism and gun bans are popular with brits. I'd rather not discuss politics. Please just respect my reasons, thanks.

Tougher about doing cold calling? If you set yourself up in Switzerland

No country is fully 'free', all countries could become 'Socialist' if they have democratic elections. You don't have snowballs chance in hell of getting to the USA with your total lack of qualifications. The economies of most other countries, especially in the EU are in the same situation as the UK, unemployment is extremely high, and you will need private health care and there are very few benefits available, if any, unless you are on a contract.

Yep I'd do that no trouble. Cheers for the suggestion.

I don't mean to be rude but you've just told me very little I didn't know already. Just because Switzerland isn't 100% free doesn't mean it's not a far better option than the uk. And in fact I think the Swiss would strongly resist socialist policies. Making them far less likely to fall under the rule of the control-freak types who run the UK and think my wage packet is public property. I don't want benefits, I want to earn and pay for everything on my own and be left alone as much as possible.

Hi nestflyer,

Welcome to BE.

I think what folk are trying to tell you is that every country has its issues, especially in the current economic climate. Unemployment seems fairly high wherever you go and you may find by moving abroad, that it's the same S**t but different bucket. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. Are there other countries you are focussing on other than Switzerland? From my limited knowledge of Switzerland its expensive to live there so if you are only looking at low skilled type work you may find it difficult to afford a decent place to live.

The best thing would be for you to take some time and look through the forums on BE for the countries your interested in, and read though the experiences of other members. That may help give you a better idea of living and working and working in those countries and may help you narrow down any possible countries you are looking at.

Also have you considered the language issue? Eg do you speak any other languages? If so that may also help determine what countries to focus your search on.

Hi, thanks. Oh I understand what people are saying but you have to understand there is no future in the UK. There is nothing to achieve here. Higher education is expensive and of low value. So social mobility is now nonexistent. Taxes are rising or fixed while public services are cut. What doesn't go on services goes on the "budget deficit". Caused because by our insane leaders poring money into the pockets of insane bankers. Who in turn refuse to give mortgages to even middle-class couples with decent salaries. In short University, is a no go. Owning property, is a no go. And to add insult to injury my civil liberties are shrinking by the day. I'll learn whatever language and live in a bedsit for ten years, to escape this crap.

Google working holiday visa for Australia, New Zealand or Canada. I don't know your age but you usually need to be between 18-30 in order to apply. Not so sure on the whole gun ownership thing though, but hey, I guess you'll have to compromise on something! At least you will be out of the UK.
