Re: After Vetassess / Off shore training record
ok, a day after posting this i got a letter from Vetasses
here is what is says
This offshore technical skills record entitles the holder to an entry level or relevant provisional occupation licence in any state or territory, subject to the applicant also meeting the non-skill licence requirements
it goes on
having been assessed as having the required technical skills as detailed in this offshore technical skills record for a
certificate III in electrotecnology electrician (uee30806)
(traning package electrotecnology uee06)
can anyone advise on further training from this,
wendy and steve o, any thoughts?

Re: After Vetassess / Off shore training record
just recieved this email from WA licencing auth
I have received this email and i thought it would be of interest to you
""
Dear Mark,
To obtain a WA Electrical Licence when your qualifications have been gained
overseas, you must have an Australian Recognised Trade Certificate in the trade
of electrical mechanic (for Installing work) or electrical fitter (for
maintenance). This is different from being assessed for migration purposes.
Applications for an Australian Recognised Trade Certificate (ARTC) can be made
by contacting Trades Recognition Australia on 1300 360 992 or +61 3 9954 2537.
They are open Monday to Thursday 9am to 7pm & Friday 9am to 4pm Australian
Eastern Standard Time, excluding public holidays.
http://www.workplace.gov.au/workplac...nresidents.htm
When the ARTC is received, you must then forward a copy to us with the attached
application form and pay the non refundable application fee of $36.
http://www.docep.wa.gov.au/EnergySaf...orm%20R018.pdf
We will then issue a letter for you to sit a practical and short theory test
conducted at TAFE. (In some cases TRA will make the applicant sit a Trades Test
in order to get the ARTC. If this is the case, we will exempt the applicant from
the practical test upon proof that the Trades Test has been passed.) The theory
test is based on the Standards Australia publication "Wiring Rules
AS/NZS3000.2000." This can be purchased from Standards Australia. Their
address is 165 Adelaide Terrace Perth and the phone number is 9221 6700.
Optional - You may be eligible to apply for a Permit to Work Under Supervision
if you have an employer. This allows you to work while waiting to sit the
tests. To do so the applicant and supervisor must complete the attached form.
This permit is valid for one year and cost $63.
http://www.docep.wa.gov.au/EnergySaf...orm%20R010.pdf
Once you have passed your exams/course, you are required to pay $315 for your
electrical licence. The registration will be valid for 5 years from the date of
issue. Our internal processing time is around 4 weeks.
Your first step is to apply for an Australian Recognised Trade Certificate by
contacting Trades Recognition Australia. If you have already done so, you may
lodge your application form with us.""

Re: After Vetassess / Off shore training record
Hi Doc we were under the impression you would not have to do ARTC after passing Vetassess, this is obviously not so, does make you think why we had to do Vetassess what a pain.

Re: After Vetassess / Off shore training record
Doc,
I know you've had this through but the letter clearly says we'll get prov licences when we arrive.
I think their has been a breakdown in communication in WA this surely would be the email if we'd passed TRA only.

Re: After Vetassess / Off shore training record
This is what the Vetassess website says. It has "new" titled next to it which some of you may not have seen. We have just passed our paper assessment and are waiting to hear if we make the July practical.
"In the electrical and plumbing occupations, regulators expect that intending migrants will be able to demonstrate the technical skill competencies but will not be able to demonstrate the appropriate Australian related knowledge until they have had experience working in Australia. This Australian related knowledge will need to be addressed through gap training on arrival.
The Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) is a new form of skills documentation that is issued by VETASSESS on successful completion of the technical component of the relevant units of competency or qualification. It lists the technical skills demonstrated in the practical assessment and the gap in the Australian skills or knowledge component which needs to be bridged to meet the full standard, for example the Australian Wiring Rules for electrical trades.
Regulators in these industries have agreed to provide a provisional (restricted) licence against the OTSR to allow applicants to work, once they arrive in Australia, while they complete the ‘Australian knowledge’ element of each unit.
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) including TAFE Colleges will view the OTSR as evidence of recognition of prior learning contributing to a statement of attainment or qualification. Some RTOs in each State and/or Territory will offer the required gap training to meet the qualification and licensing requirements.
For information about licensing in electrical and plumbing trades in each state/territory download the electrical trades licence matrix or the plumbing licence matrix and follow the links to the relevant regulators in each State and/or Territory.
In most trades time spent working ‘on the job’ and additional "
Be interesting to see what the licensing authority and Vetassess say!

thanks for the post. i have seen this on the vetasses website a few months back, i was just checking with the licencing authority with what to do to gain a licence after vetasses.
Their reply was that they would only issue with assesment from TRA still.
Now, i have emailed both Vetasses and the Licencing Authority of WA on monday to clarify this situation. As of now i still have had no feed back. i will re email them tonight
Will keep you all posted,
oh,good luck with your practical

Re: After Vetassess / Off shore training record
Hi all,
Apparently OH has had his too but as we are in Oz at the moment it's been useful to see what it actually means!!! (mum's opened it for him and read it down the phone!!!)
They really are on the lookout for sparkies apparently but most want visas ready before any applications for jobs.
Doc, you mentioned that you were interested in the mines, have you found anything yet? They do "fly-outs" to the mines and apparently it's big bucks working there!!!
G'day from sunny Oz!!!

ok, i have had a reply from the licensing authority........
To our knowledge VETASSESS was to begin assessing UK applicants but this had not begun as of yet and they assess for migration purposes only. Hence the requirement to go through the TRA.
I will have to do more reseacrh on this and get back to you
wtf!
will chase this up immediately for everyone!
Vetassess might have some expalining to do!!

Re: After Vetassess / Off shore training record
That's rubbish. We may as well have done the TRA paper assessment and then gone for the ARTC once in Oz. If we don't end up with a provisional licence then whats the point of paying the £1000 for the practical and paper assessment? Nothing's changed apart from being more expensive and taking longer!
Looks like Vetassess will have some explaining to do! :curse:

Still no respone from vetasses,
i have emailed them again and cant wait to their reply.
It all seems a little worrying but i hope its a simple thing like vetassess forgot to tell the licencing people and it will all be sorted in a few days
until then, lets not worry to much
