Default relocating to Nicosia

My husband's job is taking us to Nicosia in December/January and we will need to find long-term rental accomodation. We have a 4 and half month old baby and I am not currently working. Does anyone have any tips on where the best areas are to live with young children (for access to mother-baby groups etc.). I will be keen to meet mothers with young babies as soon as possible - Cypriots, English, other nationalities... Does everyone live in apartments or is it possible to get a house with garden? (or does this mean being more isolated and living out of town).
I've heard that accomodation is unfurnished - any tips on where to rent/buy furniture also welcome. Thanks.
