"must have suitable accommodation"
Hey everyone,
The spouse visa application requires a UK address. How are those living outside the UK expected to answer this requirement ?
thx

Are minimum standards of accommodation defined? How many square feet, how many bedrooms, bathrooms, things like that? I'm probably looking in the wrong place, but I don't see this spelled out ....

I think this is designed to avoid the 'sheds for beds' that have sometimes been in the UK papers. They are just looking at your own room for one couple, separate room for a child etc (unless under 5 or thereabouts).
Where are you actually going to live? You must have a plan. If it is at a parent's place you'll need to provide a copy of a mortgage statement or deeds, or a tenancy agreement that says you are allowed to move in.
Some people have hd a valuation or council inspection to prove the number of rooms, but I think (could be wrong) just a statement from the main owner or occupier could suffice.
I don't think I this part of the visa rule is scrutinised as closely since the change of rules in July 12 because of the bigger financial requirements.

Thanks - just seems like a complication for those having been outside the UK for some time without parents or not wanting to ask friends.

I think even a hotel booking has been OK for people who have been successful in getting the visa in the past. It's not as complicated as it seems.

Where do you plan on staying after moving back? Presumably you'll be looking to rent at least initially if you don't already own a property but it'll take at least a week or so to arrange a tenancy and move in. So if you're staying with friends or relatives for the that initial period then use their address. If you'll be staying at a hotel or guest house then use that address.
