UK Ancestry Visa - study or work
Hi ! for apply Ancestry Visa, it needs to provide evidence of plans to work in the UK, either in the form of a job offer or a business plan for self-employed.
Do accept for studying(Bachelor, Master, Doctoral degree) in the UK instead of work or self-employed?
Does it take 6 to 7 year to acquiring British citizenship( 5 years visa + 1 year ILR) ?
Thanks !

the ancestry visa requires you to do some work. It can be part time, a few hours a week only, or self employment (be sure to register with HMRC as self employed within three months of starting) and keep records and accounts.
You can study, and perhaps you can get a part time job a few hours work in a local supermarket nearby or some work available in the area to students.
After 5 years you can apply for ILR at which stage you will have to show evidence that you have been doing some work throughout the 5 years and fulfilling the conditions of your visa. And then after one more year, you can apply for BC.

no tier 2 is a work visa.
the uk gov do not call it an ancestry visa in the application... but I cannot recall what.
I cannot see the application form so I guess you need to look under 'other' or anything that is not tier or spouse.

It's six years to citizenship (five years + one year ILR) or five years if you marry a British citizen (five years + ILR).

Other points for the OP to think about -
1) If you have a Hong Kong driving licence by passing a driving test in Hong Kong, you can exchange your Hong Kong driving licence to an UK one without test.
2) You can open UK bank accounts in Hong Kong before moving over here. Both the Bank of East Asia and HSBC offers this service -
