Should I have heard anything by now?

Should I have heard anything by now?
Guys, quick question.
I sent our spousal visa application paperwork from the States to Sheffield, and it was received by them on Sept 20th. I have not received any email saying that they have started the application, or anything related. Is that normal? I saw a different thread where someone said they'd received an email saying the application had been received and was being allocated to a case officer for review.
I know there are potentially long wait times now, so just trying to get a feel of how long we should be prepared to hunker down for.
Thanks all.

I got a generic email saying the application had been received about a month after submitting the application. Most people get one sooner, but some people don't get anything. You could pay and ask them if concerned :-)

Count on at least a six month wait if things continue the way they have been. It's generic advice but don't book flights or quit jobs until the visa has been approved. If that means you then need to get the vignette renewed or fly to the UK to collect the BRP before coming back to tidy up your affairs then so be it.
