Re: Returning Resident UK
It just says-
Number of Entries: Multi
Type: Returning Resident
Observe: Work Permitted
Valid From xx/11/17
Valid Until: xx/05/18 (xx is the date in May)
VAF No: xxxxxx (x is 7 digit number)
And with DOB, Nationality, Passport number, picture, stamp, 2 secure lines at bottom etc
And a 9 digit red number stamped at the top (probably visa number).

To me that says visa is valid between those dates and that is when it has to be activated by entry to the UK.
If the above is correct, then you don't have to do anything after the 05/18 date. You residency is re-activated.

Re: Returning Resident UK
I hope they give her a new stamp as what concerns me is it looks like she is only allowed back until 05/18. Of course, that would not make sense. Imagine traveling out of the county or registering for NHS in June 18. I presume, when we enter back in the county they will ask for how long and grant indefinite leave.

Any update after returning to the UK? Did you get new ILR?

Re: Returning Resident UK
Back in UK --- yay. On entry they were a little baffled. Checked with supervisor who let her in but with confusion. Whilst in UK I called up UK Visas and Immigration - was given very misleading information (it will take years and years and you can never leave the country even for holiday!!), called back and spoke to an agent who knew what she was talking about!
So you have to complete an NTL application & Photos & old passports with original ILR stamp £229 and either send off, or book an appointment +£610 at one of the premium processing offices. They will then send a new Biometric ILR card. If you send off it takes 6 months, if you get an appointment its a couple of weeks.
I asked that if we want to go on holiday in June (Spain, turkey etc) will there be a problem. She said without the new Biometric card, although technically you are on ILR by reentering the country originally, you may get some complications in Spain etc or even leaving UK at the airport desk, so it is far safer just to get the ILR Biometric Card.
So we are going for extra £610 --- and the appointment system is a bit random!
NTL stands for No Time Limit, so lets hope that is more permanant than the original Indefinite leave to remain !!

You should consider applying for British Citizenship once you meet the requirements.

So 3 years away and still managed to get back in. Thats terrible work by whoever authorised it, should have been denied and made to get a spouse visa.

Not particularly. Only one year with lapsed ILR after 28 years in the UK. If she wasn't going to get it then no-one would.

That's pretty mean. Think logically - the same outcome would've happened - but it would just've wasted everyone's time and money. I am glad more sensible people run UK Visas. Life is too short.

Re: Returning Resident UK
NTL is no time limit. It's just the form. In the end you get a Biometric Resident Permit (BRP) --- which I think is 21st Century ILR. I think like a Green Card :-)
To other posters, absolutely, we will apply for British Citizenship this time. We learned a tough and very expensive lesson.
