Default Proving Crown Service for Double Descent

Good day

I need to prove that my grandfather was recruited in the UK for the British South African Police Service in the 1930s before he moved to Rhodesia. I have hit a dead end as I have no idea how to prove that he was recruited in the UK for the crown service.

He was also involved in the following: Service with the Southern Rhodesian government from 21/06/1949 as a Commissioner of Oaths and later as an assistant magistrate and the secretary of the Governor, to his appointment as a Justice of the Peace on 19/12/1958. He was appointed as a Captain in the Territorial Defence Forces of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland on 27/10/1960.

However it needs to be proven that he was in the Service with the Southern Rhodesian government (as the BSAP) as a part of the crown service.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

I suspect the records are in Harare. Could be difficult

It appears your grandfather joined the BSAP at the age of 16. That seems very young to have been recruited from the UK. Do you have any more background on how he came to Africa?

And I have a picture of his Identity tag issued when he joined the unit. This is the only proof I have that he undertook Crown Service at the time of my birth. My question is, do you think that sending these documents along with the British passport application is enough proof of his crown service or do I need to get some kind of formal letter from the BSAP to this effect?

I am hesitant to just send it off and try, as it is expensive to apply and don't want to waste that fee if possible!
Thank you
Is your father’s occupation listed on your birth certificate?
