Newborn british passport..
Hi
I'm planning to give birth here in Hong Kong before we apply for my fiance visa. My fiance is a UK born citizen. I would like to ask if our child can get a british passport even though we're not married yet?

1) You will be treated as a Commonwealth citizen in the UK and you will be entitled to register to vote in all UK elections. Being on the electoral roll helps you to build up your own credit history in the UK.
2) You can also apply for UK civil service jobs as a Commonwealth citizen.
3) You can register to become a British Citizen using form B(OTA) which is cheaper than naturalisation. (£1163 for registration vs £1282 for naturalisation - both 2017 prices)

Your child will be a British Citizen. As a British Citizen, your child can apply for a British passport. Have you consider registering your child's birth with the British authorities as well?

One more thing I have to point out regarding the fiance visa application. Do you have British National (Overseas) status? If you do, I would suggest you to get your UK fiance visa using your BN(O) passport. Using the BN(O) passport have the following advantages -
1) You will be treated as a Commonwealth citizen in the UK and you will be entitled to register to vote in all UK elections. Being on the electoral roll helps you to build up your own credit history in the UK.
2) You can also apply for UK civil service jobs as a Commonwealth citizen.

No. I am not a British National (Overseas)
Thanks again.
