Hi Cheeks 34!
I'm sure someone will be along with more detailed info, but here's my understanding in brief.
You will need to apply for a spouse visa for him.
to do this you either have to have £62,000 in savings - held for 6 months with no access , or if you are selling your aussie house then the projected "profit' from this can be used.
alternatively YOU (as the UKC) need to have a job in the UK , starting within 3 months of acceptance paying at least £18,600 AND have been holding a job in australia paying the equivalent for at least the previous 6 months.
Otherwise, you'll have to come back to UK , get a job paying at least £18,600 a year, hold it for at least 6 months, keeping all payslips etc , then YOU can apply to sponsor him for his visa.

It's doable, but not easy as the UK has clamped down on UK citizens bringing in non EEA spouses as they cannot do much about EU immigration!
Do you have kids? If so they need registering as UK citizens , otherwise the minimum money needed goes up.
Good Luck!

Read the following document carefully to see if you can qualify to sponsor your partner for a visa :
https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...equirement.pdf
Another option would be if your partner had British 'roots' and could claim an Ancestry visa.
