It would still be possible to vote for other parties in a post-EU environment.

Let's just defuse this before it starts by saying that UKIP won't be in government after the next and neither will Britain be leaving the EU nor will Scotland became independent for that matter. When it comes down to it the status quo usually prevails.

The UK did not merely sign up for the European Convention on Human Rights, it darned well wrote the convention. It is almost mostly a British creation, though there was significant input from the French in that postwar era.

But the Atlee government's view as to whether people should have human rights to protect them against government prying and government malfeasance is substantially opposite to today's climate. Wherein MP candidates are centrally appointed by political parties that are controlled by big business instead of being interrogated and selected at a grass roots local level. What we went to war against (the takeover of the world by communism and fascism) has happened by stealth while no-one was watching. In communism the government owns the businesses, in fascism the businesses own the government. Not actually a big difference in the end, ordinary people get abused either way.

It's no surprise that governments don't like human rights, it cramps their style.

It may or may not be the case that EU citizens have excessive human rights in Britain.

But it is most assuredly the case that British citizens have insufficient humans rights in Britain. More and more like a police state with each passing decade.
